Salvation and Light Development Action (SLDA)

PAH, together with Salvation and Light Development Action (SLDA), has decided to move forward with support for communities facing enormous challenges in Pibor County, South Sudan.

It’s an area affected not only by devastating conflict, but also by forced population displacement and food insecurity. The joint effort between the two organizations aims not only to provide humanitarian aid, but also to sustainably support the economic development of local communities by strengthening their resilience to future emergencies.

The project focuses on working with the region’s residents themselves, who have been living in very difficult conditions for years. With PHA and SLDA working directly with local communities, project activities will be deeply rooted in the realities of daily life there. In four regions – Vertet, Likuangole, Pibor and Gumuruk – 625 people will be supported, divided into 25 groups of 25 people each.

One of the key elements of the project will be training in the production of energy-efficient stoves and briquettes, which is part of climate change mitigation. These innovative solutions not only reduce wood consumption, but also contribute to environmental protection, which is extremely important in a country where deforestation and degradation of natural resources are a serious problem. An equally important aspect will be to support women in developing sewing skills that will allow them to become financially independent and actively join the local labor market.

To ensure the initiative’s sustainability, group members will also receive support in business management, accounting and in developing efficient business plans. PAH and SLDA will also

introduce a revolving loan mechanism within the groups themselves, allowing them to reinvest funds and to develop their businesses further. This kind of financial and training support will enable communities not only to start their own businesses, but also to expand them in subsequent years.

The project also takes into account the needs of disabled people, who are often marginalized in such initiatives. PAH, in consultation with local communities, will conduct an analysis of the barriers that may limit their participation in the project to ensure equal access to resources and opportunities.

The PAH and SLDA project reflects a new approach to humanitarian assistance that, instead of focusing only on immediate support, also promotes long-term development, based on local initiatives and resources.

Through study visits, experience sharing and collaboration between groups, the participating communities will be able to inspire each other, strengthening their ties and building a solid economic foundation for the future.

Activities such as the identification of 25 South Sudanese organizations in the region, extensive training, and the introduction of a revolving loan mechanism provide an opportunity for real change. This model of work not only supports sustainable development, but also gives local leaders the tools to actively shape the future of their own communities.

This is not just a humanitarian project – it is an investment in the independence and future of the people of Pibor County.

The project will support 625 people.
