The escalation of the war in Ukraine in February 2022 forced millions of people to leave their homes to save themselves and their loved ones. Millions of refugees have decided to come to Poland and other countries, many of whom have nowhere to return to – their homes have been destroyed, fields and roads contain mines, and both schools and hospitals are closed. In some parts of Ukraine, there is no electricity or running water, and the economic crisis is intensifying. As a result, hundreds of thousands of people who came to Poland after February 24, 2022, are likely to remain there for a long time period. Here they start life anew practically from scratch, often without any money, struggling with the challenges of adapting to the new environment. Their needs are substantial.
That is why in May 2022 we launched a separate national office in Poland, tasked with responding to the refugee crisis and helping people from Ukraine in Poland, as well as carrying out other operations including our long-term projects in the field of global education and the Pajacyk program.
